Philip Henson is a Partner and the Head of Bargate Murray’s Employment Law Group
Philip’s practice covers all areas of contentious and non-contentious employment law, from drafting employment contracts and policies, to employment related litigation in the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal, and the High Court.
Philip is frequently instructed by senior executives to negotiate high value settlements on termination of employment (across many sectors including: advertising; banking; fashion; financial services; legal, media, IT sectors); and by corporate clients to defend claims for unfair dismissal, discrimination and enforcing restrictive covenants and confidentiality provisions.
Clients range from an international listed company and professional organisations to SME’s, and private individuals. As well as substantial private sector experience Philip has also represented organisations affiliated to the Crown.
As a leading employment law expert Philip is often asked to comment on employment law related matters in the national and international media including for BBC News 24; Sky News; ITN News; and the Guardian Newspaper. Philip is also the author of his own influential employment law update blog, and has a particular interest in cases concerning discrimination on the grounds of religion or belief.

As the Bargate Murray Partner responsible for Corporate Social Responsibility Philip is keen to support various charities by getting involved in sponsored sporting events including:
A Dragon Boat Race on the Thames (as part of the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival) for a Chinese community centre in Chinatown (London);
Currently training (or more accurately trying to find the time to train for) for the Royal Parks Half Marathon (in aid of the NSPCC); and,
5km runs for environmental charity “Trees for Cities”. This year Philip and the Trees for Cities team hope to reclaim their Guinness record for the largest barefooted 100m race in the world.
